Vectorization and scale limits

Threshold, blur, and simplification change the contour. Invert is useful when foreground and background brightness are reversed. Two-point calibration establishes geometric scale but does not correct perspective, lens distortion, or source-image error.

Preparing an image and tuning parameters

High-contrast black-and-white line art with a simple background is usually easier to vectorize than a photograph. Threshold sets the foreground boundary; invert handles the opposite brightness relationship; blur can reduce small noise but may remove detail when set too high. A more aggressive simplification ratio can reduce nodes while making curves less exact.

Minimum area can filter specks and scan noise, but an overly large value may remove meaningful small contours. Start with the defaults, then inspect the DXF in CAD for gaps, overlaps, open paths, and unwanted outlines. Adjust for the real use case rather than optimizing only for a small file.

Scale calibration and CAD follow-up

Two-point calibration works when the image contains a reliable known distance. Click the two locations in order, confirm the pixel distance, then enter the real distance and unit. It estimates overall scale but cannot correct camera angle, perspective, lens distortion, paper curvature, or errors in the source image. Without a trustworthy reference, unitless output is safer than guessing a dimension.

After downloading, inspect layers, units, coordinate direction, closed contours, dimensions, and process tolerances in your CAD software. Laser cutting, fabrication, construction, and submission drawings require source measurements and qualified review; do not make those decisions from an image conversion alone.
